Description

The “Accelerator-based sources” (DYNACC) research team (within the DYSCO group – Complex System Dynamics) of the PhLAM laboratory (Physique des Lasers, Atomes et molécules) is looking for highly motivated candidates for a post-doctoral position associated to the TWAC project coordinated by the CNRS and funded by the Europe Innovation Council – EIC Pathfinder Open).
The research project concerns the development of very compact accelerator with high energy gradient above the 100 MeV/m using new technology in the terahertz frequency domain. The objective of the project is to experimentally demonstrate the acceleration of electron beam with gradient in excess of 100 MeV/m and the generation of ultra-short bunch duration and high peak current (in the sub-fs and kA range).
The project lean on a strong interaction between various fields in Physics such accelerator physics, lasers and non-linear optics. The present fellowship will focus on the experimental characterization of the electron bunch duration associated to studies of the electron beam dynamics. The activity will be both experimental and theoretical.

Context

This work is in the framework of the EIC Pathfinder Open project TWAC. The post-doctoral researcher will be hosted at the PhLAM laboratory with regular short travel periods to IJCLab to conduct the experiment.
PhLAM is a joint research unit under the dual supervision of the University of Lille and the “Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique” (CNRS). PhLAM presents research activities related to light-matter interaction. Activities are predominantly experimental, but with a very strong coupling with theory. The DYNACC team of PhLAM is specialized in the complex dynamics of relativistic electron bunches in synchrotron facilities such as storage rings and free-electron lasers and are recognized as international experts in the observation of ultra-fast phenomena and longitudinal electron bunch diagnostics
The candidate will have at his disposal an optical laboratory equipped with femtosecond fiber lasers (Ytterbium and Erbium) as well as a femtosecond titanium-sapphire laser at 800 nm. The project also receives financial support from the Contrat de Projets État-Région (CPER WaveTech@HdF).
In addition, the project is immersed in a European context which will lead the post-doc to carry out missions to the different partners to discuss scientific issues and participate in experimental sessions on power lasers (University of Pecs in Hungary) and accelerators (DESY in Germany).
